A Night In The Life...

One of the things that draws me to New Mexico is the light show it often provides.  I sat at my campsite one evening and watched the lake to the east as the sun was setting behind me.  The soft, pastel shades provided a gentle transition to nighttime.

After dark, it can get REALLY remarkable.  The night sky is filled with stars.  Overhead is the Milky Way.  Taking a photo of that area is hard.  Any exposure long enough to capture the night sky generates streaks in the ever-moving star field.  To minimize that, I shot toward the north, rather than to the more intense star field overhead.

That light on the horizon was a barely discernible glow and was either from a small town about 50 miles away, or from Socorro, 70 miles to the north.

Dawn is often a cloudless lightening of the sky over the lake, followed by the sun peeking above the ridge.  Sometimes, however, clouds will be present, creating a light show that can be intense.

The Pelican

A marvelous bird, is the pelican.

Its beak holds more than its belly can.

He puts more in his beak

Than he can eat in a week

And I don't know how the helican.
