A short walk along the Undercliff Road brings one to the foremost climbing area in the East.
This is a wonderful area. There are trails for biking, hiking, X-C Skiing, horseback riding, horse-drawn carriages and backpacking. There is world-class rock climbing. Every fall, the area becomes a magnet for bird watchers. There is hang gliding, ice caves, waterfalls, cliffs and forests. It will be hard to match this diversity once I get out west.

The Gunks - Minnewaska and Awosting
From the Youghiogheny River, I drove to New York north of Hyde Park in two days.
A few miles west of here is an area known as the Gunks. Back in the '70's I was introduced to the Shawangunk (The Gunks) area for hiking. I came to love it for climbing and cross-country skiing as well. I did some farewell bike riding near Lake Minnewaska yesterday.
Hopefully, weather permitting, I will get to the climbing area before moving on to Massachusetts.
