I know my blog has been kind of quiet lately. Here is what I have been up to.
I am staying at the edge of the Snake River, just below Hell's Canyon. The Snake River divides Oregon and Idaho. Throughout this area, the terrain is characterized by the absence of trees, or as I call it, the Paul Bunyan Memorial Forest.
That is a sizeable mountain!
Bird life is abundant around here. The shallow water here at Farewell Bend attracts pelicans and geese.
Hells Canyon is the scene of some very rugged mountain terrain split by the Snake River. I would like to explore it more, but the key roadway is washed out, and going around the washout takes 4 hours.
Even though clouds are rare, the sunsets can still be pretty impressive.
A few more days here, then I will head up to the Columbia River Gorge. There is an area near here, the Wallowa Mountains, that I want to explore more, but that will be another year.
