Elephant Butte Lake

When I first got here, I asked the campground manager if he could recommend an area for scenic photography.  That took me to the Gila National Forest.

The road where this shot was taken was a side road where I most definitely did NOT belong.  Getting out of there through mud, snow and ice was an adventure I do not want to repeat, but I made it, with a few prayers and a lot of luck.

Back at the campsite a few days later, the wind set up some really nice interference patterns on the lake surface.

The look here changes dramatically.  Here are three photos on the same day.  First, morning.

 Next, late afternoon.

Finally, sunset.

I think I will stay another week.
